A global restructuring that reorganises the balance of power and distributes capital more fairly could begin now. In a journey around the world, the film observes the lives and work of ten people who are united by one goal: energy autonomy. Director Carl-A. The topic: Germany’s path to a sustainable supply of 100% renewable energy. Wind, water and solar power instead of oil, gas, coal and nuclear power. The message: „Together we can do it!“
On behalf of all the technicians, engineers and project developers who, unnoticed by the public, are working on the energy rebellion, inventors, business people, professors, students and environmental activists and their projects are portrayed here. For example, the Bavarian inventor Edy Kraus. He worked for years on a pelletising machine that would turn straw into valuable fuel, almost went bankrupt with the prototype, but stayed on the ball and was ultimately successful. Or the businessman Amir Roughani, who now operates several large-scale PV systems. At first he thought it was impossible to supply an industrialised nation with affordable renewable energy, but after a trip to Ukraine he is now convinced that a country should not be dependent on oil, gas and coal from abroad.

It’s time to act! As a passionate climate campaigner, Carl-A. Fechner connects people from different cultural backgrounds on both sides of the Atlantic.
100% renewable energy – this has long been technically possible. But the global energy transition is faltering because the flow of money from coal, gas and oil is drying up. How can we defy the greed of energy companies for short-term profits – and turn their gaze to the future? Global change can only come about through a movement from below. Filmmaker and thought leader Carl-A. Fechner is convinced of this.
In his documentary film „Climate Warriors“, he combines the most powerful scenes from his successful documentary „Power to Change“ with additional stories discovered in the USA and Germany. He meets celebrities, politicians and committed people from all parts of society. They all fight as „Climate Warriors“ for a common goal: a clean, fair and safe world through renewable energies. This also includes a young generation of climate warriors such as the charismatic Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, an activist and hip-hop artist who is fighting for the future of our planet. An energy revolution is possible if we want it!

The film describes how the debate about the coal phase-out affects personal lives and how politics and the private sphere intertwine. We followed Philipp, Ruth and Anja for more than a year. Three people, united in the conflict-laden debate about the future of Germany’s energy supply, but on completely different sides.
Philipp (35) lives in Cologne. His job as an open-cast mining engineer in Germany’s largest open-cast lignite mine, Hambach, is the big draw for him. Ruth (30) lives in Leipzig. She works in an organisation for sustainable development. She regularly reaches her personal limits when it comes to risky climate protection measures. Anja (36) lives in Spremberg in Lusatia, where she recently opened her own advertising agency. Most of her clients work in the coal industry…

The film is set in Berlin, Amsterdam, Basel and in the Indian megacities of Bangalore and Chennai. In search of the food supply of tomorrow, we meet idealists, visionaries, provocateurs and bold businessmen.
How to feed the city? The documentary film shows the global battle for the food markets of the future. Where will we grow our food in the future? In the countryside, on flat industrial roofs, in communal city gardens or on huge industrial sites outside the city, where greenhouses stand next to livestock sheds? And what consequences does this have for rural areas and urban slums?
The increasing depletion of entire regions in Europe and developing countries is a cause for concern. What is to become of these emptying landscapes? Without a change in mentality, especially in the industrialised nations, Löwenstein sees the world stumbling into a global food crisis of unprecedented proportions. Is there nothing left to do but accept people’s consumer behaviour and satisfy their ever-increasing needs as efficiently as possible? Or will this path inevitably lead us to a dead end?

15-year-old Fardosa in the slums of Nairobi, who campaigns against the forced marriage of young girls. 13-year-old Roman in Iraq, who is fighting against parental violence in his neighbourhood. And above all, 14-year-old Felix, the central character in our documentary, who campaigns against climate change with his Plant-for-the-Planet initiative, travelling the world, debating with decision-makers and politicians and always managing to convince new children that it is worth fighting for their own goals.
Globally networked and with incredible energy, the children work as professionally as adults – but they see things differently!
The major crises in our world from a child’s perspective. Over the course of four years, the fechnerMEDIA film team accompanied Felix Finkbeiner and his friends through the highs and lows of their work.
A success story that encourages others to do the same for our world.
